WHO WE ARE:
The idea behind Planetary Design was born in 1992 on a backpacking trip in the mountains of Western Montana: a desire to drink quality coffee while adventuring in the outdoors. No one should have to settle for burnt coffee, instant coffee or – worst of all – no coffee while adventuring. This passion led to the formation of the best travel French press on the market.
We are lucky to live and work so close to many of Montana’s beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes. Our company ethos is “have fun and get ‘er done!” Whether going fly-fishing, boating, backpacking or commuting to the office, every day starts with a great cup of coffee.

The name BruTrek® combines the two things that every adventure needs. A way to get there (Trek) and coffee (Bru). As the name suggests, we look to combine these ideas and give every outdoor enthusiast their solution to coffee on the go.

Solving the Brewing Problem
French Press coffee is renowned for its rich, full-bodied taste due to full immersion. However, traditional French press brewing often leads to over-extraction and unpleasant sludge. These issues are caused by the ill-fitting plungers and open mesh filters. The plunger in most traditional French presses does not provide a complete seal, allowing grounds and sludge to leak into the coffee. Additionally, the open mesh filter allows the brewing process to continue after pressing, leading to a bitter taste. These issues can become more pronounced over time, as the coffee can taste too strong or bitter after sitting without pouring.
Our solution? The Bru-Stop™. Bru-Stop™ technology features a tempered stainless steel plate that flexes while pressing down to create a one-way valve and a silicone gasket to make a perfect seal. This combination of features makes a physical barrier between the coffee grounds and brewed coffee, preventing over-extraction and residual grounds. The BruTrek® Travel French Presses, equipped with Bru-Stop™ technology and double-wall insulation, deliver consistent, rich and full-flavored coffee without any grit or bitterness, allowing you to enjoy your drink at your own pace.
